Some of our monks remember the visit of Heat Moon, who
eventually wrote "Blue Highways." Moon recalls traveling on
Georgia Highway 212, before catching sight
of a water tower and then a sign that said "Monastery."
Responding to some inner impulse he turned off the highway
and traveled slowly down the long avenue until he arrived at the
gatehouse. Heat Moon walked in, and was welcomed by an old
monk who invited him to stay for a while.
