'In the Bible God becomes a "consuming fire" who means to refine and purify. God appears to Moses in a burning bush, and to Elias in a fiery chariot; and when deep shadows sweep through the body of the human race, Christ awakens the fading brightness by bringing "fire" to the world.

In the same way Christ walks through our inner land, burning away whatever is unlike Him: traces of selfishness, deep grooves of self-absorption.
